“Wild Prancer”

The wild horses are part of the landscape in the West. These horses have an elegance and spirit that has always captured the hearts of those that know them.

“Busting Out”

I wanted to capture the sense that these wild horses are coming out of the canvas. Their strength is magnificent and their intelligence is on a level that we don’t understand because we have lost that connection with the wilderness and that sense of knowing.

The wildfires are a necessary way for the forest to regenerate itself. Unfortunately the soils are not holding moisture and the logging practices, the bug infestations, and the no burn policy have been devastating to the ecology of the forest health. Now we see the repercussions in the intensity and size of these fires. They leave a scorched earth that has little hope of recovery.

“Charred Mosaic” This painting represents the forest after a healthy fire. The term ‘mosaic’ is used to represent the pockets where moisture is retained in the soils and these areas are quick to revitalize the forest floor. When the forest is allowed to be in charge it protects diversity and supports healthy moist undergrowth. Acrylic on board 48”w x 60”h 2018

During the mating season it is not unusual to see the overtures of delight. This painting captures that moment of felicity.
