Poems That Inspired My Work

A Life of Many Moons

Unknown

They say life comes in phases

But what about the times

When your world goes dark

 When you must re-draw

each star by scratch

and start

over,

wait for the light reappear

Most of us

 live lives of many moons

step into new universes

we don’t recognize

and slowly find

our footing,

realize under this new moon

is a place, a home

that will provide

all we need

to keep going.

So when the stars fade

and the sky darkens to ash,

we must look up, trust

wait , and know

there’s always

another moon coming.

Night sky with three moons over a colorful, textured landscape of trees and foliage.

West Wind #2

When you hear, a mile away and still out of sight, the churn of the water as

it begins to swirl and roil, fretting around the sharp rocks –

when you hear that unmistakable

pounding –

when you feel the mist on your mouth and sense ahead the embattlement,

the long falls plunging and steaming –

then row, row for your life toward it.

Flourish

That we find a crystal or poppy beautiful

means that we are less alone,

that we are more deeply inserted into existence

that the course of a single life would

lead us to believe.

The Owl

I’m the owl did you see me fly over your head in the moonlight?

I can hear everything you say but I won’t give your secrets away

Not tonight on this glorious flight in the glare of day you might feel different

anyway

It’s the magic of the moonlight brings together mystic friends

We can talk together all night but with the sun it ends

I’m the owl and they say I’m wise wise cracker is more my hat size

I go out every night to eat ta get McMeadow fly through treats I

Heard you sigh are you quite alright I can land right here yer feathered buddy is

all ears

It’s the magic of the moonlight brings together mystic friends

We can talk together all night but with the sun it ends

I tell you how it feels to float upon a breeze

And listen to the sussuration language of the trees

You tell me all about the mystery world of man

Hearing it through your eyes I begin to understand

I’m the owl and it may seem weird, but I’m quite glad you appeared I

Like hearing about your day strange to me in many ways but

That’s alright we are quirky and bright help each other along embrace our

friendship with this song

It’s the magic of the moonlight brings together mystic friends

We can talk together every night but with the sun it ends

 Forever friends forever friends

Wild Geese

“Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,

are heading home again.

Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,

the world offers itself to your imagination,

calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting

over and over announcing your place

in the family of things.”
